Good hair; better asses

Deap Vally hail from California and are possibly stuck in a sixties clothing time warp.  That said, they do have good hair and better asses than most of North America.

Sounding quite a lot like The White Stripes, of course how could they not with just a drum and a guitar to guide them, or maybe Jack White  has been binding his breasts and cheating an octave or two?  Either way, they can hold their own nicely in front of a live crowd.  Vocally, there was a hint of Joan Jett and some Pamela Moore, but Lindsey Troy is ultimately unique in her voice and could kick an Opera into touch with ease.

The sound this duo make is uncomplicated and seriously fucking loud.

As Deap Vally made an entrance at The SCC, Edmonton, Alberta, there was a whisper of “oh, it’s a chick”. Followed by “oh, another one.”  Who were the crowd expecting?  Rob Halford, or maybe even Dave Navarro?  They both have a feminine side.

Having already played the stage with Thurston Moore, Dinosaur Jnr and Sir Iggy of Pop, they are  obviously no strangers to the big guns, but Troy and partner  Julie Edwards, did seem genuinley thankful to be playing pre Queens of The Stone Age.

Unusually for an opening act they had interesting banter and the crowd was appreciative.  Most of the males in attendance now sporting a super stauner, after a mental visual of the ladies in swim wear, at the World Water Park, West Edmonton Mall, the day prior to the show.

Vine became a recient of a QOTSA video loop when the ladies hotfooted it to the pit for the Headliners.

The marauding mountain of a man that is Josh Homme (pronounced Om me) had his desert disciples bouncing by song three and they barely took a break for the two hour set.

Little wonder there is no confusion on the stage, as band members hop from one instrument to another, but there isn’t and it makes for an excellent set and creatively cannot be touched.

From a thrashing threesome on guitar, to a haunting vocal brought by Homme, this bunch of Cactus Cowboys has it all.

In reviewing the band you will likely catch a hint of early David Bowie, here and there with Some Killing Joke along the way.  That in itself is a stroke of artistic fabulousness.

A backdrop with video that incuded blood, gore and crows, to support the latest record Like Clockwork, put the icing on the already excellent cake.

As Make It Wit Chu was presented, some in the audience were doubtless imagining a closed eyed,  slow dance, with a citrus scented Homme, while during other songs he appeared a touch posessed, a little clumsy and was possibly out to lunch with the Vicar and fiddling with the Organist!

Kudos has to be given to the dud (no, it’s not a typo)  with the worlds crappest mowhawk haircut.  It was dodgy as he pushed his way to front row, it  wobbled like flaccid knob, it had parted at the crown and was probably held up with semolina, or a similar type substance, just to be totally toppled by a crowd surfer at the shows rear end..

Queens Of The Stone Age don’t play shit shows.  Admirers of the band are willing to attend and show their full support for the fabulous sense of untiming.

It’s a guarantee that everyone in attendance  at SCC left, QOTSA deaf!

With every year that goes by, the more the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame seems to become a less cloudy vision, a more transparent, old boys network who randomly pick names from the hat of yesteryear.

Rush, Donna Summer, Heart and Public Enemy on this years list. All deserve to be recognised, but are they names that you, today would put forward for any type of nomination? Why in fact should anyone be nominated for such an honour? Artists are out there because they want to be. Jeff Ament, bassist with Pearl Jam once said that “you can’t give people a fucking award for art.” He was right. There are so many that go unrecognised, un adulated and un awarded. Who are these suits that choose who should be revered and not so? No-one should judge anothers art. If a particular genre is not for you then that is OK, but if you do choose to comment who are you to say that Bob Geldof is superior to Eminem? You are no-one..

Artists, musicians, painters, actors and the like work hard at their crafts. Not because they want to end up a name on a wall, but because they have drive, vision and passion. The best thing you can do is buy the merchandise, see the show, listen to the records and tell your friends, relatives, neighbours and colleagues. Spread the word and keep them alive.

METZ hail to Duff. Duff buys METZ

July 13 2013 saw Georgetown, Seattle explode, for the Sub Pop Silver Jubilee. That’s right, twenty five years.

Among the performers were Sub Pops very own METZ.

METZ are intense live. Very similar in sound to a younger, gnarlier Nirvana. Pre Dave Grohl and Pat Smear!

They are experimental, they are masters of music and they caught the eye of none other than Duff McKagan, Seattle native, punk pro and former bassist and scribe with Guns n Roses…. The original line up.

Duff was out to support friends at Sub Pop and spend time with family and METZ caught the eye of the seasoned and respected musician.

“What do you know about these guys?” he asked.
TiTT offered that “METZ are Canadian” quite proudly and in return TiTT asked the question of METZ
“How did it feel to be noticed and appreciated by Duff McKagan?”

The reply was short and sweet.

“This is one of the easiest questions we’ve ever been asked.
We were incredibly stoked that the punk rock guy from Guns n Roses likes our band. The guy played on Appetite For Destruction.”

McKagan Tweeted @duffmckagan later, saying he had purchased a METZ record.

Not only did Sub Pop celebrate an significant anniversary, they started a love story.

Hey! Hello!

HEY! HELLO!

Swimwear

At #1 in the charts in the UK.
A first for Ginger Wildheart, but it shouldn’t be.

This song reaks of The Wildhearts.
It has the unmistakable jordie voice and makes you tap two feet and nod your head.
It’s catchy, it has a great beat and simple lyrics, but it should be the other band.

The Wildhearts have toured the UK relentlessly for years, they have a very devoted fan base and they play outstanding rock music.

OK, they never made #1 in the chart. They didn’t need to. They made #1 in the hearts of fans worldwide.

It is understandable that Ginger needs to be occupied, he has suffered at the hands of depression for many years and work is a large part of his therapy, but is this a step too far?
Currently he is affiliated with the very edgy and some would say misunderstood, Courtney Love, as part of her touring band.

Is this just too much and selling out for the extra exposure? Some would say so. If it puts The Wildhearts on a bigger world stage some would say marketing at it’s finest.

Whatever they say, we say
“Waay Ay Man, Nice One!”

Mind Your Manners

Mind Your Manners

This would be a great title for a punk song!
And indeed it is.

Pearl Jam have been for tea with Jello Biafra and will be vacationing in Cambodia shortly.

This long awaited new music is going to give you a boner that will make Eddie Vedders stage knob seem insignificant. Minute even.

Mike McCready has found his inner Dead Kennedy and has written song that would have had pogoers punching holes in the roof in 1978!

Vedders vocals are rough and tough. Bringing the song right into 2013.

With strong bass from Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard providing some hard rhythm, this song is an instant hit. It’s not pop, it’s not rock. This is punk at its rawest.

If you missed it the first time your luck is in.

Pearl Jam are touring North America SOON!
