Not only was the weather absolutely appalling on the morning of this yearly rawk fest, but the news that Incubs singer Brandon Boyd had not been able to sing at the Calgary show the previous evening, darkened and made heavier the impending cloud of doom.
At a little past four PM the bad news broke that Incubus had once again had to cancel their performance due to Boyd having a serious throat infection.
On top of the weather throwing down buckets of rain and wind strong enough to set the Titanic on a re-course earlier in the day, this was a flannel wearers worst nightmare. Soggy flannel and no shirtless Boyd is not a good combination.
Headliners Linkin Park played on schedule and covered Sabotage by Beastie Boys as part of their show, the song perfectly describing the situation! The weather, if not still hellish windy had cleared some by this point, but was it too late? As first time visitors to Edmonton they were greatly anticipated, yet the events of the day fairly dampened and froze the spirit of those attending… and those who chose to stay home in the warm…
Here’s hoping both bands return and soon, in great health, indoors or at the height of Summer.
Get well soon Brandon!
