Old dusty plastic dollies, with missing arms and perky tits, posing in store windows, and wearing the latest fashion, this ain’t.
Misdressed musicians with unbrushed hair and nicotine stained fingers, pissing in your beer and flicking ash in your basket of wings? Indeed.
Die Mannequin is back, and how!
Though the delectable Care Failure (F) is instantly recognisable the second she opens her very pretty mouth and starts to sing, the new release from Ms F and Die Mannequin, is more than just a little different compared to the spitting punk anthems they are better known for spewing.
Neon Zero is slated for release in October 2014, and it just dropped it’s first single; Sucker Punch. http://youtu.be/pXp92NNWXoU
It is extremely likely that it will really knock you for six, maybe even seven or eight. It is certainly going to black at least one of your eyes, and will probably fracture your nose.
After spending the best part of eight months holed away, bringing this record together from scratch, Care F has once again come up with the goods. This single is fucking catchy, and yet has a grufty, slightly musty and dark undertone, that will probably kick you… right in the cock. This is the case for a good percentage of this record. Welcome To The Badlands could have just as easily been the first single, as could Murder On The Dancefloor or Knock Me Out.
Self proclaimed wankers (on guitar and bass, that is) Care and Anthony Bleed, know how to bring just the right amount of vomit and real cream to your plate. You cannot avoid tapping your feet, but you are probably picking a scab while you dance.
Do you want to don legwarmers and join Jane Fonda for a workout? Or will you lay down naked with 90’s Dave Navarro for an opiate opener? Die Mannequin know how to fuck with you, and that’s a fact.
Of small concern is the layered vocal and synth, and how that will reproduce live. But it is a very small concern. It is very likely that the architect of this piece will have that figured out already!
Will Die Mannequin stick with the tried and trusted, and bring along Stacy Stray (guitar) and Dazzer Scott (drums) on the road? That is also very likely. Die Mannequins Facebook profile still lists the two, and they appeared alongside Failure and Bleed in the 2010 Bruce McDonald cult movie, Hard Core Logo 2!
Neon Zero through it’s entirity is perfect cocktail of well mixed synth, a heinous beat on bass and drums, with fucking loud guitar. Add some keyboard (piano) here and there, and these fuckers even manage to give a not very subtle tug at your heart strings ; Blood In Blood IS going to make you tear up and grab a stuffy. A Care Bear perhaps?
At a very good guess, the Dying Plastic Clothes Dolly Brigade won’t be disappointed in this record, and new earholes will quickly become filled with a wax and honey mix, designed to enterap you, just like a fly gets tangled into a spider web.
Here’s hoping that the airwaves will be filled with this venom and nectar production, and that the world of music finally give Care F and cohorts the fucking recognition that they deserve.
