This is not a band. This is a family. This is not a tour. It’s a crusade.

After 27 years the line up of Pigface continues to excite, intrigue, frighten, and energize me with the prospects of new collaborations and new lifelong friendships. Some details I don’t fully know yet, some things are changing, but the prospect of being on stage with Charles, Lesley, and Mary again, is truly wonderful, especially with the recent accolades of our work on FOOK by Pitchfork.
Music is a powerful force and again thrusts me into new relationships with Randy Blythe of Lamb of God and Justin Pearson of The Locust. Curse’s solo career is exploding right now and it’s so good to have him celebrate onstage with us. I’ve spent so much time with Greta and grown to love her approach to the bass, and the involvement of our dear friend Gaelynn Lea is exciting to the core. It’s one thing to push the boundaries of music, but it’s quite another to wave the flag for accessibility and this makes me proud and hopeful for the future. I know there will be bagpipes, sitars, and tears of joy and pain and many old friends joining us along the way. I quote this speech from Shakespeare’s Henry V, on the inside of every band members itinerary, but let me share it with you:

“And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.”

Saskatchewan, has long been the butt of idiot jokes, especially in Canada and on Saturday night, May 4 2013 at a Motley Crue show in Spectra Place, Estevan, SK, one particularly stupid concert attendee proved the point once again.

Rushing the stage and knocking over 62 year old guitarist Mick Mars, Mr stupid gig goer got less than he deserved when he was kicked while down, by bassist Nikki Sixx.  The stupid stage diver was dragged off after a scuffle and Mars was picked up and helped off stage, along with the other three band members.  As the band left the stage, the bands drummer, Tommy Lee asked (and rightly so) “What the fuck is wrong with you? You fucking idiot” and singer Vince Neil announced “We might be back!”

A return was made and the band played the rest of the show to thankful, less stupid Saskatchewanians.

Mars just celebrated his birthday last week and has suffered years of pain due to Ankylosing Spondylitis.  An arthritic condition in which soft tissue hardens and fuses it to bone, making movement painful and often impossible.

Mars posted an update on his Twitter account the following day…

It beggars belief that people pay good money to attend a show, injure the musicians they went to see and their staff and almost ruin the whole show for an additional 6,000 plus people.  A lifetime ban should be in order from the arena and a charge of assault at the very least against the stupid stage crasher.

Mars had been looking great, better than in the past few years, at the Rexall Place show in Edmonton, Alberta, attended and reviewed by TiTT just six days previous. Undoubtedly security will be on high alert and Mars will be a little more cautious for a while.

This stinks of the recent ordeal that Lamb Of God singer Randall (Randy) Blythe just went through.  A fan who had got onto the stage at a Lamb Of God show, died a short while after.  Blythe was accused of pushing him off the stage and manslaughter.  He was later cleared of the manslaughter of teen fan Daniel Nosek, but many went through heartache and Blythe endured time in a Czech prison pre trial.

Should that not be a lesson?  This person should be made accountable for his actions and charges should be laid.  Musicians put themselves into the public spotlight, but that does not mean they should be assulted, grabbed and abused.

The Royal Ballet doesn’t have to deal with this shit.  Why then should any other performer or artist?

Lamb Of God OFFICIAL statement

First of all, thanks to everyone who has reached out in support of Randy and each of us in this terrible situation. It’s noted and very much appreciated.

We have been keeping our heads down and not speaking out due to the fluid nature of the situation and the constantly changing information that even we receive daily.

Within an hour things can do endless 180’s. It’s maddening to try and make heads or tails.

We’re taking the time to speak to you as it has been a significant period of time since this situation began and while nothing is immediately clear to any of us, we are not trying to keep anyone in the dark.

We have reached out and are making use of the resources we have acquired to help our brother who is still detained in Czech jail.

In the two years since, we were never notified of anything related to this incident.

Randy is our brother and we assure you, we are all staying very positive for him, working endlessly behind the scenes to provide any and all assistance possible.

The best we can do is to stay positive and continue to support our friend that we know is innocent.

We know that justice will prevail and we will continue to do our part to support our friend.
